Finding My Way Back: Two Weeks into Work After Maternity Leave

Returning to work after maternity leave has been a mix of emotions I didn’t fully expect. At first, I felt excited—ready to dive back into the world I once thrived in. But almost immediately, I realized things weren’t the same anymore, and neither was I.

The warmth from my colleagues made coming back easier, but I couldn’t shake the feelings of doubt and guilt. There were moments where I questioned everything—if I had come back too soon, if I was doing the right thing for my child, and for myself. Balancing work and motherhood felt like learning to walk all over again, but this time with a baby on my back.

But here’s the surprising part: I’m rediscovering myself through it all. Not just as a mom, but as a project manager, as a professional who’s evolving. The challenges, the exhaustion, the push to manage everything—it’s reshaping how I approach my work. I’m not just finding my rhythm as a mother; I’m also discovering a new sense of strength and focus in my career.

Just like in my first post, “Motherhood Made Me Loud, Bold, Stronger And Ready to Share My Journey,” this new chapter is about embracing the growth that comes with motherhood, not just personally but professionally as well. Two weeks in, I feel more connected to who I am, not despite the changes but because of them. And as I navigate this new version of myself, I can see that it’s possible to thrive in both worlds. It’s not always easy, but I’m learning to embrace it, one step at a time.

Here’s to finding my rhythm—one day, one moment at a time!

Thanks for sharing this. I’m right there with you—coming back to work after maternity leave has been tough. The mix of emotions, doubt, and guilt is real. I love how you talked about rediscovering yourself. Motherhood really does change how we approach everything, including work. It’s good to know we’re not alone in figuring this out!

I’m Nawel

Hey there!

I’m Nawel, a project manager who once used to keep it cool under pressure—until motherhood came along and made me louder, bolder, and somehow even more organized!

Who knew that managing a baby would be the ultimate leadership training?

By day, I’m deep in the world of tech, leading projects, coordinating teams, and getting stuff done. But 24/7, I’m a mom, figuring out the balance between deadlines, diaper duty, and everything in between.

After years of navigating the tech world and now motherhood, I’ve learned that with enough grit, grace, and a sense of humor, we moms really can do it all. And that’s what Techie Mama is all about—finding the joy and the challenge in balancing a career, family, and a little bit of me-time.

Here, I’ll be sharing tips on leadership, work-life hacks, and my own journey of juggling it all—because if we moms know one thing, it’s that we get it done!
